LKG Admissions 2017

9th to 12th Feb 2017

LKG admissions were started for 2017-18 batch.

As always, the admission process has been meticulously followed:


  • Families earning less than Rs 8000.00 per month (USD 119; SGD 169; 112 Euros) were invited to fill in application forms.
  • Teachers and staff completed house visits to check if the household income was less than Rs 8000 per month. 
  • The final check was done by the Committee members to ensure that we were reaching out to the most underprivileged children.

With Raabiya, a lovely quite child, whose Mom is a home maker. Her Father sells flowers to make a living.


Nithisha sitting in a yoga pose (next to Ana) will join our school soon. Her father is a daily labourer, earning around Rs 6000 as a painter.

This 1 room house is typical of most of the parents of our students. They are mostly bare of furniture, with just the bare essentials. The TV is a free gift by the government!

With Shabana, who will join our school soon! Her father is a daily labour cook and her mother is a homemaker. 


Farhana (smiling in the black dress) is 8 years old and has dropped out of school after class 1, as her parents are too poor. 

Nandini's father is a book binder and lives on daily wages, while her mom is a home maker.

Sharmila's father is a daily wages painter, and her mom helps with the income by helping with house work.




Toast Masters Workshop 11th Feb

The 8th session of the Toast Masters as reported by our teacher:

*This was the eighth session, The session started with a recap.

Rahul of class VIII gave a introduction speech.

As a part of this educational session, the topic covered was how the body language is important and the concepts like facial expressions, gesture, whole body movement play an important role in communication.

Type of eye contact - light house effect
Facial expression -  happiness, sad, anger, surprised / fear. 
Gesture - three types conveyed conventional (symbol/ word)by two parts of the body using hand and legs, descriptive gesture (height / size) emotional (feelings)
Whole body movement -start with your posture.

Students shared their improvement from the last session.

To improve the speaking skills:
Skills 20% speaking in front of the mirror.
Find feedback from others.

Students speeches were evaluated by Sabita ma'am, subha and Abdul.

Students were selected for next week speech.







11th Feb 2017

Toast Masters have been conducting regular sessions. This being the 7th session.

They have been doing great service in bringing up the oratorical capabilities of our students.

Today's session as reported by Mr Abdul, Maths teacher:


        Please find the attachment  of report regarding seventh session of the Toast master program.

  • The program started with a recap of the last week session, the students were questioned about the CPL course.
  • Then the session was started by Mr.Subu with a game - the title of the session was the "importance of Vocabulary".
  • Some easy methods to improve vocabulary were discussed.
  • Some games relating to the vocabulary development was conducted. Students were very interested and involved in today's session. 
  • Methods to be followed for conducting a speech were discussed.
  • After the break, "speech sessions" started students were allotted for each role as TMOD, Timer, Grammarian, "ah counter" and Evaluator.
  • There were totally 8 speakers among the students. Akshaya of Class X was selected as a good speaker and Vishwa of Class X was given Best evaluator.
  •  Students were informed to prepare for the next session, students were asked to prepare for a story by their own.

Pongal Celebrations!

The children performed "Villupattu" and folk dances and celebrated Pongal with much fanfare and gusto!

Dr Vandna, Nitish and Anjana visit Gurukulam from UK

It was wonderful to have Dr Vandna, Nitish and Anjana visit school again!!

Dr Vandna, who has co-founded "Gurukulam" in UK, along with her sister Anjana and Nitish who helps publish the "Gurukulam" Facebook articles visited school.








Visit to "Sagar" - a Coast Guard Ship

Thanks to the Coast Guard's invitation, our children from Grade 7 and 8 visited the Coast Guard ship - Sagar!

They were accompanied by Mr Ramesh (admin) , Mr Abdul (Maths teacher) and Mr Sathya (Science teacher).

The students enjoyed getting to learn about the GPS, Radar and Fire Safety systems on the ship. They were also treated to breakfast and juice.















Mohammed Usman, former Vice Principal, visit to Gurukulam

Mohammed Usman, our former Vice Principal visited school and spent a whole day with the children conducting workshops.

He bought sweets for the whole school and supported the school with a monetary donation!

We were touched to have Mohammed back with us.











Indian Talent Exam - the first round!

Abdul Kaleel of Class 10, topped the school in General Knowledge in the first round of the Indian Talent Exam!

The rest of the 10th standard participants are not too far behind!! :-)
