Field Trip to Seashell Museum – A Day of Learning and Fun

 On 28th August, students of Grades VII to IX from Gurukulam set out on an exciting field trip to the Seashell Museum at Mahabalipuram. The day began with students assembling at the school by 8:30 a.m., filled with anticipation and energy. Three buses carried the enthusiastic group to the destination.

At the museum, students were fascinated by the wide collection of seashells and marine treasures, gaining knowledge about the beauty and diversity of ocean life. The visit turned out to be both educational and memorable, sparking curiosity and wonder. School organised a healthy refreshment for all the students and for the staff members.

After exploring the museum and nearby spots, the students enjoyed a delicious lunch. They also enjoyed a visit to the beach, where they spent time at the seashore, playing and soaking in the refreshing sea breeze.

By 3:30 p.m., the students returned to the school safely, and were dispersed by 4:00 p.m., carrying with them smiles, laughter, and wonderful memories of a day well spent.

The trip was truly a blend of fun, learning, and adventure, leaving every student with cherished moments to remember.

  

TNJFU "Foundation Day" with ICAR & CIBA

The "Foundation Day" celebration of "TAMIL NADU Dr.J.JAYALALITHA FISHERIES UNIVERSITY" (TNJFU) was organised on 21st June 2025 at "Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Aquaculture" (DIVA) Paraprofessional Institute of Aquaculture Technology by the "Indian council of agricultural research" (ICAR) along with "Central Institute of BrackishWater Aquaculture" (CIBA). 

Our school students from Grades VIII to XI participated in the Foundation Day Celebration. 

Organisers provided valuable insights about the Aquaculture Technology along with the available college courses for children to plan their higher studies, with a very nominal fee.  

Students went through the academic and infrastructural facilities offered by the institution. 

With Commander Abhilash Tomy

Commander Abhilash Tomy is a retired Indian Navy officer, naval aviator and yachtsman. In 2013, he became the first Indian to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the world under sail. He also competed in the 2018 Golden Globe Race. In January 2021, he retired from military service to concentrate on the 2022 Golden Globe Race. He finished second in the race,^[10] becoming the only Asian skipper to win a podium finish in a round the world race

More about Commander Abhilash Tomy

Gurukulam students took active participation during the Meet & Greet program on 17th August, organised at Akshar Arbol International School at Injambakkam.  

To encourage our students and to get inspired by Commander Abhilash, Captain Vivek Shanbhag sponsored the entire event for our Grade X - XII students.

Commander Abhilash Tomy shared his experience with the students. He spoke about how he overcame his challenges to achieve the Golden Globe, a solo non stop race around the world which was an eye opener for the young generation.  

The program was well organised  and students enjoyed the session with his presentation.

Industrial visit to Royal Enfield Factory

Our Grade XII students got an opportunity to visit the Royal Enfield Factory, located at Sriperumbudur. Industrial visits are usually the first point of interaction between a student and a live working industry. The students learn about the latest technology trend and make up their minds about their future job or area of interest. Our students took this seriously and utilized this industrial visit for learning and enhancing their understanding.

Industrial visits provide students with a chance to meet industry leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and corporates who share their wisdom, learning, and experiences. These interactions are useful to students in their career and help them in developing leadership qualities, management skills, and learn about the industry working. Industry interaction is also helpful in updating the curriculum when there are significant changes in prevalent technologies.

During the industrial visits, the students get an opportunity to experience how professionals live, learn about various management concepts like "Just In Time", "Lean manufacturing" and how they are put into action. It is not easy to manage hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers at the same time and meet the stringent quality norms and production targets of the company. How managers, production engineers, employees work in tandem to achieve a common target is a management lesson in itself.

Students enjoyed the trip and they have been encouraged with some mementos.

Students Participation during the Ecofest - 2022 (organised by Pichandikulam Forest Conservation)

 

The Ecofest 2022 was organised by the (Pichandikulam Forest Conservation) on 26th March 2022 at Sankara School.  

More than 20 students actively participated during the fest. The stage show which was conducted by our Grade VII students was extraordinary and about the conservation of land.  

The general presentation was given by the Grade VI students about the environment.  

The participation gave them good exposure to get hands on experience and to perform on stage.

Students Field trip to Tholkapiyar Poonga - Adyar

On 4th March 2022, Friday, our students from Grade IV - VII & XI visited the Tholkapiyar Poonga at Adyar, Chennai.  

As written by our teacher who accompanied the children:

More than 70 students visited the Park.  Pichandikulam Forest Conservation officials organised this trip for our students.  

The main focus of this field trip was to analyse the carbon sequestration through the environment changes.

This trip was also to provide a potential impact to students’ cognitive skills, knowledge, interests, and future career awareness and prospects.  

This field trip offered them an unique opportunity  to create connections, understand and develop the joy of learning. 

Students on field trips sharpen their ideas and acquire hands-on, authentic experience to develop their curiosity, interest and also the desire to learn more. Observation skills improved. Social skills developed and the students shared their perceptions and knowledge.

It's an authentic, first-hand, sensory-based learning, Experiential activities helped them to explore, touch, listen to, watch, move things. Learning consists of grasping an experience and then transforming it into the result, to guide the students through reflection is to “increase knowledge, develop skills, clarify values, and develop people's capacity to contribute to their communities”. 

Students extended their special thanks to the organisers for arranging the field trip.
