Dream Project

On Oct 9th 2026, we initiated the “Dream Project” at our Gurukulam school for underprivileged children in Kovalam, Chennai. This project stems from the belief that each one of us have a dream. When you fan the flame of your dream, it gives you purpose in life, which becomes a huge driving force for everything that you do!

Each of the kids from grade VIII through XII grade were requested to share their dream or career ambition. It was great to connect with the children to understand the “Why” or “What inspired them to have that dream/ ambition in life”. It was amazing to hear some of the inspiring stories of our children.

One of the girls aspires to be an IAS officer. She and her family went through the pain of moving from her village to a bigger town since their village did not provide education beyond grade 5. She wants to change the future of education in the villages by being in administrative services. Another girl aspires to be a cardiologist to help people like her grandmother, who suffers every day by not getting enough sleep nor does she eat enough to stay well. One of the boys was inspired by the local actor and now CM, Mr. Vijay and wants to become a police officer to stop the bad guys and fight corruption. Another girl wants to become a beautician and said, “I want to make people feel confident in their face”.

Whichever experience inspired our kids, it was great to see bright young minds to dig deeper and think about the question “Why”. As the next step, we’ve requested the kids to now figure out “What they need to do”, “How do they wish to pursue” and the resources they need from Trust Children to support their dreams! Can’t wait to see their write ups and presentations when we meet them again next year.

I wish to thank the School principal, Mrs. Uma and my fellow trustee, Mrs. Sabita, for helping co-conduct these brainstorming sessions and getting the kids started on their journey towards fulfilling their dreams.

I sincerely thank all the sponsors and well-wishers of Gurukulam school and our team whose support allows us to give back to society and hopefully impact the future generations one child at a time!

Lots of love,
Vishal Khushalani
