Exploring Acids and Bases – Litmus Paper Experiment for Grade VIII

On 22nd August 2025, the Grade VIII students of Gurukulam participated in an engaging Science activity focused on the Litmus Paper Experiment, designed to deepen their understanding of acids, bases, and pH concepts.

During the experiment, students tested various household substances using red and blue litmus papers to observe the color changes that indicate whether a substance is acidic or basic. They carefully recorded their observations and discussed the results, connecting practical experimentation with the theoretical concepts learned in class.

The activity encouraged critical thinking, observation, and analytical skills, allowing students to explore how different substances interact and the significance of pH in everyday life. By performing the experiment themselves, students developed a hands-on understanding of chemical properties and strengthened their scientific reasoning.

The Litmus Paper Experiment was a perfect example of learning by doing, fostering curiosity and reinforcing core science concepts. Such interactive sessions at Gurukulam ensure that students not only grasp theoretical knowledge but also develop practical scientific skills that are essential for holistic learning.
