Jacoba Van Der Mei's visit

The children had a treat from Jacoba Van der Mei and her friend from Netherlands along with Kishore Reddy, our Committee member. The kids loved the chocolates...of course!

Pragadeesh is the son of a fisherman....

.......and his dreams when he was 5 years old was to become a Doctor!

He joined Gurukulam when he was 4 years old. Today - Pragadeesh is doing his 10th standard at Gurukulam. His dreams have changed over the years, but he is well on his way to becoming whatever he wants to be. And it is thanks to each and every one who supports Gurukulam, that children like Pragadeesh can dream of a future and have a chance to make it a reality.

He got a "High Distinction" in an assessment in Mathematics for Indian Schools by the UNSW Global, The University of New South Wales, Australia. Read about it at:

He learns Karate, Sailing and Yoga at school apart from his regular studies.

He made use of all his training to win accolades in Karate. He has won a gold medal in a State level competition and a bronze medal in an "All India Karate Tournament 2008". He again won the 1st prize in Kata, in the South India Karate Tournament in 2014. Read about it at:

TOGETHER....I hope we can give children like Pragadeesh a chance to make their dream a reality.

We have children who are bright academically throughout our school, we have others good at sports and some others good with their hands and mechanically inclined.....

It is our dream to bring out the full potential in all our children, whatever they maybe.

It is also our dream to bring them up as responsible human beings with the right moral values.

Together we can make this dream a reality.

Volunteering Day by KPMG

Volunteers from KPMG made our children sit up and think! 

.......thoughts of career and how to achieve it!

Headed by Mr Prathap, the volunteers split up as 2 teams.

The first team interacted with the 8th, 9th and the 10th standards and did career counselling....it made a big impact on our children. Made them more aware of the steps that they needed to take to make a better future for themselves.

The second team interacted with classes 1 to 5. It was story telling and reading practice. Much needed to get our children more profecient in English...what better way than through stories?!

Teachers Day Celebrations with "Solar Winds"

Teachers Day celebration was along with Teena and team of 12 volunteers from Solar Winds...

The volunteers interacted with our children from classes LKG to the 6th standard. They also ran a volleyball match between our teachers and students!

MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP  GURUKULAM

Date : 10 / 09 / 2015

Venue : Math Lab, Gurukulam

Time : 10 : 05  am – 12 : 40 pm

 How do we mathematics in ABL (Activity Based Learning ) System? What are step by step approaches to teach counting in Kindergarten? How do we use modern Learning tools in Math Lab Class? How does one use group activity as a teaching technique? How does one use local (inexpensive) things around as learning tools?

These were some questions our teachers learnt hands on with Ms. Vidhya, an eminent educationist who took her time off to train our teachers of Math Department. We shared some of innovative teaching strategies too! It was really a time to share as fellow teachers. She was very impressed by the way our Math teachers teach addition and subtraction of integers by bottle caps and Class VII students shared their latest math project on Rain harvesting as a example to HOLISTIC Learning using Mathematics with elements of Chemistry, Physics and Business Studies. She was very organized in teaching strategies and concentrated well on basics of Math teaching. On the whole it was real sharing of ideas and would go a long way in learning and teaching processes of Math as a whole.

As a follow up to this program we are now to install some more models and learning tools in the Math Lab.

Doll making project

Classes 1 to 3 went on a doll making spree.... and out came sweet adorable dolls from their tiny hands!

 DOLL MAKING REPORT

Date : 26.08.2015       Periods : 3^rd to 5^th period       Timing : 10.15 am -12.00pm

Project Name : Doll Making

A project based on doll making was done on 26.08.15 by classes I ,II, III.

Students used sponge, colour papers, vegetable, cotton, egg, ice cream sticks , for making dolls. It is currently being displayed in the class rooms. Gowtham and Haji Ismal made the sponge dolls well beyond our expectation. Khadhar basha made a doll based on his own idea and method . Even we were not aware that dolls could be made in this method! The children themselves took on the role of instructors. The children who understood the method helped the other children who did not understand . so this was a great experience for the children to get more ideas for doll making.

Kids go Surfing!
