Identifying the letter is an important skill for children to develop their skills to form the word, because it forms the foundation for learning to read and write. When children are able to recognise the letters, they are able to start connecting them with the sounds they make, and this is essential for reading and spelling.
Children's knowledge of letter names and shapes is a strong predictor of their success in learning to read. Knowing letter names is strongly related to children's ability to remember the forms of written words and their ability to treat words as sequences of letters.
Alphabet games are a wonderful way to expose the child to more letters, both visually and verbally. Exercising both fine and gross motor skills and providing a wonderful opportunity for sensory play, the little one will love learning in a multitude of ways without even realizing it.
