This is our first day of blogging :-) and I would like to start with the visit from the man who started off our blogging - Vishal Khushalani
4 years to this day, Vishal last visited our school. He has come back all the way from US and had a pleasant shock...
Kids spoke in "English" :-) :-) They showed him their karate, their dancing, their reading skills and showered him with questions apart from their love :-)
This was an amazing visit!!! - The kids that we had enrolled 4 years back have grown so big; they talk such fluent and impressive english that it's unbelievable. I now understand when people in the Independence day video spoke so much about their english....it's really worth interacting with them in person.
ReplyDeleteOther than the above a few things about which I was very happy include:
- Education system: The education processes followed at Gurukulam are well documented and focused on the overall development of the child. The daily and weekly recognition and reward system encourages each child to perform better and work as a team.
- The other thing that really impressed me as I walked around the village is that even outside the School, the teachers and children communicate only in English. Kids talk to each other mostly in English...which is really cool. One would imagine that outside the boundaries of the school in a rural village like Panayur kids would switch to talking in the local language...but that's not the case. Gurukulam has truly transformed the future of this village!!!
Keep the great work guys!!! Kudos to Capt Nandkumar, Vinu for story telling, Ravi Sensei for teaching them Karate, teachers at School - Muthiah, Pervez, Shabana, and more...great jobs guys...great job!!!

It is great to see that Gurukulam is on the map - through their website and blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see the extent of work and dedication that has gone into the development of the children at this school.
It is commendable that the children are encouraged to speak in Enlish all the time. What is even more amazing is the varied curriculum that children are exposed to. It is not everyday that you hear of children being taught martial arts or sailing as part of their schooling.
Hats off to everyone who had (and continue to have) a hand in the development and administration of Gurukulam.
I look forward to reading about the continuing progress and successes of Gurukum at your website and blog.
