Construction of Lab! Thanks to Linkedin!

Thanks to the grant awarded by "LinkedIn for Good" Foundation, lab construction is in progress!

With this, our school will have all the laboratories required for classes up to grade 12! :-)

Parents Teachers Meeting Aug 2016

We had a wonderful interaction with the parents of students from the 8th to 12th.

After the Independence day celebrations, the parents stayed behind to have a meeting.

The importance of punctuality was emphasised. All the parents and students present took a vow to come on time!

Various issues and concerns were brought up by the parents that were resolved to everyone's satisfaction.

Independence Day Celebrations 2016

Mr P Ravi, Regional Director NIOS graced our school as the Chief Guest.

The passion in him to bring about education to every part of society was evident. NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is getting a fresh impetus in this region thanks to the efforts put in by Mr P Ravi.

Mr P Ravi gave a wonderful speech to our children and our parents extolling them to use the education provided by Gurukulam to break out of poverty. He spoke on the importance of the quality of education and was happy to see Gurukulam providing such quality education.

He was impressed by how our senior students had articulated their views during a video session by NIOS a couple of months earlier.

He interacted with the students during the speech and wanted them to be more aware of happenings around the world! And not restrict their time to school books alone.

Our play ground gets colourful!

Thanks to the ladies of Ladies Circle 4, our playground has just become very colourful!

The kids are having a whale of a time!!

Ladies Circle 4 Chairperson Ms Palak Chordia took the initiative of getting more play equipment for the children, apart from sponsoring 18 children at school!

Grand Opening of 2 classrooms by MMRT3 and Ladies Circle4

The 2 new classrooms donated by MMRT3 and Ladies Circle4 have had a grand opening by Cine Actor Mr Srikanth.

MMRT3 and Ladies Circle4 have supported our school year after year and we are humbled by their love and commitment to our children.

Internship by students from AzimPremji University, Bangalore

We had interns from AzimPremji University of Bangalore staying with us.

Here is Maya's account of her stay:

GURUKULAM SCHOOL

Name : Maya .s ( AzimPremji University , Banglore )

As part of my internship , I got an opportunity to visit a school called Gurukulam school in Chennai. I was there in the school for about three weeks . I had a fruitful time being in the school . The school is doing many good things for the students . One of the important thing is that , the school give more educational opportunity for underprivileged students and also they are giving free education for them . All the students come there have special skills and are very talented . They are following samachir kalvi till 8^th standard and NIOS syllabus from 9^th standard to 12^th standard . The NIOS syllabus was completely new for me and from there I got a overall idea about the NIOS system. The students who come there , are very encouraged to come to school . The students are very co-operative . The teachers are also very co-operative and helpful. The three week internship was really helpful for me . I learnt many things from the school . The first thing , which I learnt was , how to write lesson plan , which was new for me . Also I learnt many teaching skills from the teachers . Some most important skill that the teachers needed is to encourage each every student in their teaching . One thing which I observed was all children prefer studying through games and activity . Also the school does many interesting activity . The students are also very involved in the activities . Also the school is working toward to get ISA ( International School Award ) . For that they are doing many activities . They are doing many interesting activities based on their chapters. All the students were involved in the activity . Overall the school was really good and had really good experiece .

Emilia and Eva from UK visit Gurukulam

Emilia and Eva from United Kingdom visited our School from 20th June to 23rd June They enjoyed their stay and participated actively in the events of the week. They also took a special session on Verbs as action words in Grade V with an activity. They participated in the World Yoga day celebrations and The ISA activity on waste to want.
